What we're talking about is conversational user interfaces which is the ability for a user to interact with chat messages or voice assistants. This interaction is usually with something that is not human which we refer to as a bot.

Tech giants such as Facebook, Google and Amazon have invested heavily in this technology. This has enabled advancements in tooling along with making assistants common in the consumer world where users can interact with banks, holiday booking sites & customer services using bots.
